The View From The Blanket Weekapaug eBook Tom Zalaski Reviews
For those who know Weekapaug (The beaches, the Inn, the yacht club , the tennis club), this is not about that. This is Atlantic Avenue , and the beach on the other side of the breachway from Fenway. This is the view from the hoi polloi.
Amazing read, especially if you have ever spent time there. But even if you have never been, it sucks you in and makes you want to visit.
"Vacation with Tom Zalaski The WFRV-TV, Channel 5 (Green Bay) anchor may not invite you to "Weekapaug" to share his cottage, but he does give people a fun glimpse into his vacations in "The View From the Blanket Vacation Memories From a Place Called Weekapaug" (AuthorHouse). It's written in folksy, breezy style that is fun and easy to read. It's like sitting across from him at a dinner table and letting him regale you with his stories. So pull up a chair and listen to him vent about renters, personal watercraft, golf and horseflies. Completely captivating."
Jean Peerenboom, literary critic, Green Bay Press Gazette
The last thing I wanted to do was read a book about someone else's vacation. But to my surprise it wasn't anything like that. The author did a great job of sucking me into the book. I was re-living memories from my childhood and adulthood of special places and times. I laughed and I cried...I swear the author followed my family on vacation. His writing style was both funny and at times somber. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is because the book ended and I wanted to keep on reading. For me, it was very theraputic to read this book, especially in today's hectic life style. I was able to sink into a book that a reader could relate to on a personal level and take a trip down memory lane.
True to the memories of Westerly beaches. Would be interested in hearing more about he alleged disappearance of the neighbor.
Wonderful book that brought back so many great memories!
My parents started going to the Westerly RI beaches in the 1930's. Being a child of the 1950's like the author, my first trip to Weekapaug was when i was 8 mos. old. Been there every year since. They bought a 4 rm cottage in Weekapaug in 1970 and we all still enjoy it! This book is an enjoyable look at the area. Yes, hopefully everyone has their own "Weekapaug"! i'm blessed to have the real thing! Like a series of short stories connected by one thread, we [my husband and i] very much enjoyed this book! Great year round reading, not just beach blanket!
